Product Category

Blueberry Sharpblue

Ericaceae Vaccinium Corymbosum

Blueberry ‘Sharpblue’ is one of the most adaptable and productive Southern highbush varieties, particularly suited for areas with mild winters. Ideal for USDA zones 7–10, this variety produces sweet, medium-sized berries with excellent firmness and flavor. Unlike many other cultivars, ‘Sharpblue’ offers an extended harvest season—fruiting multiple times a year in some climates—making it a favorite for home gardeners and small-scale growers alike.

Reaching 5–6 feet tall at maturity, ‘Sharpblue’ is a vigorous grower with attractive foliage that remains evergreen in warmer regions. It flowers early, so it’s best planted in frost-free locations or with some protection in early spring. Though self-fertile, planting with other Southern highbush varieties can improve fruit set. Its consistent yield, ease of care, and ornamental beauty also make it a great candidate for container gardening or landscape borders.

Care Instructions

Planting:

Choose a sunny location with acidic, well-drained soil. Space plants 4–5 feet apart. Ideal for zones 7–10.

Watering:

Maintain evenly moist soil, especially during flowering and fruiting. Do not allow to dry out completely.

Pruning:

Prune in late winter or after major fruiting. Remove old or weak canes and encourage new, productive growth.

Pest Control:

Use bird netting to protect ripe fruit. Monitor for mites or aphids; treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if needed.

Soil Tips:

Requires acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5). Incorporate peat moss or pine bark for better acidity and drainage. Mulch to conserve moisture.
