Guava 'Pineapple'
Feijoa SellowianaThe Guava ‘Pineapple’ (Psidium guajava ‘Pineapple’) is a rare and tropical fruit tree known for its uniquely flavored guavas that carry a distinct pineapple-like aroma and taste. This variety produces small to medium-sized, round-to-oval fruits with smooth green skin and creamy, aromatic flesh. It’s perfect for fresh eating, juicing, desserts, and making exotic jams.
A fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree, the Pineapple Guava thrives in tropical and subtropical regions, reaching a mature height of 10 to 15 feet in the ground or staying smaller when container-grown. In addition to its delicious fruit, the tree features glossy green foliage and white, fragrant blooms in spring and early summer, attracting pollinators and adding ornamental value.
Well-suited to USDA Zones 9–11, this guava can also be grown in pots and overwintered indoors in cooler climates. It typically bears fruit 2–3 years after planting and can yield multiple harvests annually with the right care.
Care Instructions
Planting:
Plant in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil. Space trees 8–10 feet apart. Use large containers for patio growing in cooler zones.
Watering:
Water deeply 1–2 times weekly during dry periods. Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruiting.
Pruning:
Prune lightly after harvest to maintain shape and remove dead or crowded branches. Encourages better airflow and fruiting.
Pest Control:
Watch for aphids, whiteflies, and fruit flies. Use organic sprays like neem oil and harvest fruit promptly to deter pests.
Soil Tips:
Prefers loamy, well-drained soil with a pH of 5.5–7. Add compost or organic matter to improve fertility and drainage.
