Lime 'Persian'
Citrus × LatifoliaThe Lime ‘Persian’ (Citrus × latifolia), also known as Tahiti or Bearss lime, is a popular, seedless lime variety prized for its juicy, tangy flavor and versatility in the kitchen. Its fruit is larger and less acidic than Key limes, with smooth, thin green skin that turns slightly yellow when fully ripe. Ideal for culinary uses, Persian limes are perfect in beverages, marinades, dressings, and desserts.
This evergreen citrus tree is self-pollinating and produces fruit nearly year-round in warm climates. It grows 6–12 feet tall but can be pruned to stay smaller, making it an excellent choice for both in-ground and container growing. Fragrant white blossoms in spring lead to abundant fruit, typically ready for harvest in late summer through fall.
Persian lime trees thrive in USDA Zones 9–11 but can also be grown in pots and moved indoors during colder months. They prefer full sun and well-drained soil and are relatively low-maintenance, rewarding growers with reliable crops and ornamental beauty. Whether you’re a seasoned citrus grower or a beginner, the Persian lime is an easy, rewarding choice.
